Oculus Rift help needed

Hello my 10 year old nephew got an oculus rift from santa. But he didn't go it had to be connect to a laptop/ pc.
What are the cheapest options to get it working?
My sis was thinking of getting a gaming laptop and use it for vr and a bit of work would this work?
As the cheepest compatible gaming laptop is +1000e could I get one built for cheeper?

You'd be much better off with a desktop. A gaming laptop of a decent enough spec to run a rift will be pretty expensive. It's a sliding scale really, you can get a basic enough set up but the lower frame rates can make you motion sick.

A Ryzen 5 3600 based machine with something like a 2060 super would do it. PC building and upgrading forum would be my port of call.

The only thing about a laptop is the sister can use it as well.
He's in to his PlayStation and Minecraft but don't no would she like him having pc in his room at 10.
Would a upgraded laptop be any cheeper?

I'm sure you could get this spec cheaper than this. The Laptop forum would know the decent retailers. I wouldn't want to drop down much lower than a 2060 for VR.

Of course you could sell the rift and look at something like the oculus quest.
