    Can anybody tell me how many penalty points I’ll get for a section 51a traffic offence ? I’m being told 4

    Assuming my 20 seconds googling is on point, you should be issued a FCPN fine of €80 which, if you pay in 28, will result in 2 penalty points. If you don't pay within 28 days but pay within 56, it's €120 and 4 points.

    Yes I seen that but does that not say for learner permit holders/novice drivers ? I’ve googled it believe me. My case is different , it was reduced to 51a from 52

    have you received a Fixed Charge Notice or have you been to court? what makes your case different?

    Yes I was in court this morning appealing a section 52 (careless driving) and the judge agreed to reduce it to a 51a but said the fine will stay the same (400) so I’m wondering now about how many points I’ll get as she didn’t say

    4 or possibly 5. hard to find a definitive answer. phone the court and speak to the clerk and they will be able to confirm.

    Cheers. It was originally 5 so I didn’t gain much or anything by getting it reduced ?
