Selling a car without Vehicle Registration Certificate (logbook)

    Hi,

I posted here a month ago about selling my Ford Fiesta, but it got more complicated.

I'm not living in Ireland anymore but I've left my car there and it turns out I've lost logbook.
Is there a way to sell my car without it? I know I could get new one but it is not worth it to go back just for that and not sure if anyone else could do it for me? Did anyone had experience with this?

I would sell car to auto mechanic I know, he would use it for parts, but is this legally possible?

If not, what about scraping, can I scrape it without logbook?

    Thanks.

If he is just using it for parts and you trust him just let him take it. Issue arrises if he decides to put it back on the road and all fines/crimes associated with the car come back to you as owner.

The problem is that the car will still remain registered in the OP's name.

You can get a new logbook/ Vehicle Licencing Certificate from Shannon, have a read of this; https://www.myvehicle.ie/car-news/replacing-lost-vehicle-documents

The problem with not having a logbook is that car will remain in your name forever.
You cannot transfer it to another person and you cannot scrap it.

As Atlantic Dawn said, if you trust the mechanic you can just hand him the car, but it will remain in your name.

    Thanks guys.

I will call this number for lost logbooks and see what I can do.
If it's not possible to do it from abroad, I think in the end it will be best to go to Ireland to get a new logbook and sell or scrap car with valid logbook so that I'm 100% sure everything is right from the legal side.
