What happened my frog

I got 4 tadpoles and took them home for many weeks. I tried my best to take care of them and fed them, changed their water every so often etc. Yesterday I noticed the water had gone from loads in the container and 3 were missing. I was devastated and no idea what happened. The container is heavy and was not knocked over but as so much water was missing, I assume a fox or cat got at them :(
So I made it my mission to take care of the remaining one. I brought him inside last night and I noticed he was terrified The poor thing. (Faking dead etc) I spoke to him that I’ll mind him and not to be afraid (although he can’t hear me)...
I was on my way to bring him back to a pond today and found him dead. I’m completely heartbroken. What happened him?
I feel so guilty and hurt.
Did he die from being inside? The house is cool enough.. did he die from heart break at losing his friends or from fear? Or could he have been injured from whatever got the other 3? Please help me... so upset it’s unreal

If you used tap water, I'd guess that's probably why.

The other ones could have been eaten by birds, the water could have simply evaporated.

    What did you feed them?
