Any idea what this is or how to treat it. Asked a vet who is doing relief work for my regular vet, her answer was she had never seen it before & maybe try burnt engine oil on it. The heifer is approx 15 months old & otherwise healthy.

I had a heifer a few years ago that had a massive wart on her head, vet wasn't to concerned about it, but the flies were busy at it. I got this spray from Argi Direct (https://www.agridirect.ie/product/bactocyde-500ml2) and after applying it 3/ 4 times over a month or so it disappeared. Might work for you.

Isn't this what used to be called "angleberries" i.e an outbreak of some sort of cattle warts? I heard of a farmer of many years ago who bizarrely applied mustard to an animal with these on its neck. I assume that there is a more scientific treatment available!

I'd be concerned about a vet who hadn't heard of cattle warts (I imagine descriptions of these are in veterinary manuals) or was too lazy to spend a minute to google it.

Years ago, my Dad was advised by the Vet to apply castor oil to warts on a dairy cow.

Big difference between burnt oil and castor oil.

    Surely a vet should know.

Our vets office/animal shop is great, they know treatments even without vet around.

That Vet is part of my childhood memories, he was highly regarded by my parents. I thought he was ancient, jolly with a big bushy moustache, wearing check tweeds. I looked up his obituary just now to see that he was 68 when he died.
