Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTi - "Oil Change" warning message?

A message "Oil Change" has appeared on my Opel Corsa a few days ago, plus a small oil canister icon appears.

I checked the oil level and it's fine, so is this simply a notification that the car needs a service and get oil changed?

Is the "oil canister" symbol important to note?

I was planning on taking a trip next week across country but all servicing garages appear to be booked up until 15th July, so should I avoid taking such a trip for now?

Is the warning light red or yellow?
Oil change is normally interchangeable with service warnings, just a reminder.
Its not going to destroy the car to go outside the recommended service intervals.

    How old is the corsa?

    It's red

Same as the "Vauxhall engine oil pressure warning light" icon shown on

    2018 ... forgot to mention it's a diesel

I actually did a google search and there are many more garages than I knew existed in the area... I might just keep hammering their numbers tomorrow until I find one that can take me in on Friday

If it was me I wouldn't drive it far until this was checked out.

I had a corsa years ago + it was a disaster for oil leaks. Think it was sealant or something like that that kept going like 3 or 4 times + it would have damaged engine if kept driving with it. I got rid of it after one call out too many to AA.

Now I would hope newer models wouldn't have this issue but you never know.

Where did you buy car? I'd be ringing them saying you really need to be fitted in as red light on your car that's needs to be looked at ASAP.

100% don't drive it on the red light its a low oil pressure warning if I remember correctly, don't drive it till its been checked over.

Do not drive the car whatsoever, even to the garage, with that light on.

Surely it's still under warranty being a 2018? I know they're giving 3 years now. Call the car dealer where it was sold.

I dropped it to the garage, he gave it a look over and looked at the warning message, and said it's just in need of a service.

Of course if he discovers something he'll let me know.. but it's looking good so far.

Was it the main dealer who said that? Do you still have any manufacturers warranty left?

A low oil pressure can be from a multitude of things, but tread very carefully.

The dealer I bought it from is about a 40km drive away in heavy traffic.

I suspect it's better to get it looked at locally first, and then I can risk the long trip later.

Service finished and apparently no problems found... I did read that Opels can be a bit fickle with their warning indicators flashing inappropriately.

The message read "OIL CHANGE" with the red icon showing, but perhaps it shows that red icon when:

    - You need to change the oil (i.e. get a service)

    *OR*

    - You have an oil pressure issue

OK I think I know what the issue might have been with the icon. It turns out there are TWO bloody red oil can icons.

One is on the Tachometer, the other is on the message panel.

I only saw the Tachometer one when it lit up after I started the ignition (as per usual when all the icons on the tachometer light up).

So it must be the case that if the red oil can lights up on the Tachometer THEN we have the oil pressure issue.
If the red oil can lights up on the message panel then it's just an oil change (as per the message).

    Sheesh!
