Shared Folder between Win 10 and Win 7

I attempted to do what I thought would be straight forward but can't connect.

I have to PC's here, one with Win 10 Pro and the other with Win 7 Ultimate.

I want to have a shared folder on the Win 10 PC and Map to it on the Win 7 PC.

I created the folder on the Win 10 PC and have it shared.

Network discovery & file sharing are enabled on the win 10 PC & the option to require a password is turned off.

I then went to the Win 7 PC (which also has network discovery & file sharing enabled) & mapped to the shared drive on the Win 10 PC, that went fine, but when I try to open the mapped drive I get the error saying I don't have permission to access it.

I'm blue in the face here trying to find what's blocking access to the shared folder on the Win 10 PC.

Anyone able to help?

You need to check the actual share permissions on the folder in Windows 10. Sharing it merely publishes it on the network, in order for others to access it, you need to set access rights.

If you want to have it fully read-writable(do not do this if the win 10 PC ever leaves your private network), you need to change the permissions on the share to give "Everyone", Change & Read access to the folder.

You also need to change the permissions on the folder itself on your PC and give "Everyone" read/write access to it.

That's exactly where I was going wrong seamus.
