    Hi,

2016 Tucson cut out a few days ago and bought it back to the main dealer, they reported dirty fuel and have to change filters, drain the tank etc at a cost to me of €300 (plus a loss of €60 of fuel in the tank).

I always buy my fuel from the same local garage, keep the receipts etc and have the report and pictures from the main dealer garage.

From people's experience is this worth pursuing with the garage where I purchased the fuel or should I just cut my losses and move on?

That model Tucson is prone to sitting down on the road due to the fuel filter blocking up. I think it's more to do with the fuel filter design and replacement interval than the fuel itself.

What mileage is on the car?

No harm to let the garage know...(if they are people you know well)... but if you don't, I wouldn't bother....might get ugly (especially if there might be a suggestion that it was laundered fuel etc.) and then you won't be going back there anyway.

Just find a different garage to buy your fuel.

Must have been really bad stuff, I remember, putting half a tank of Petrol into a diesel car (Opel Astra 1.7 Cdti) ... Brimmed it with Diesel.... Not a bother.

Thanks for the reply, 82,000 km and up to date at services, the throttle body went faulty in January also.

FYI, attached are the photos supplied by the main dealer, tbh doesn't look too bad to be but I wouldn't know.

Thats dirty diesel, beyond a shadow of doubt,,,,,there is a simple past you can buy (or should be anyway ) in a motor factors called "Water Miscible Paste". You smear some of it on a piece of stick or metal and dip it into the diesel, and it will change color when it comes into contact with water, but its more than water in your fuel, judging by the color....I'm sure that its possible to get a sample analysed too, which would show exactly what it contaminated with.

Any pics of the actual filter. That could have been caused by it failing, nothing to do with dirty diesel.

That looks like the pick up cannister in the tank, long before it gets near the filter. Manky diesel IMO

Was it on the original fuel filter?

I'd inform the garage, how knows, they may have had a number of similar complaints and may not be in a position to deny it.

I wouldn't go in expecting a payment but present all your receipts, reports and photos and leave them with a copy of it all to show you're serious and not just a randomer off the street whose car broke down.

You may get a goodwill gesture to keep your custom if they see your a regular customer. Or if they are up to anything dodgy may have second thoughts of doing it again.....if you intend to keep using the same garage.
