BB question

Bought a 2nd hand frame due to an ongoing warranty ****show with Canyon.

    Its a 2018 Cube stereo 140 HPC TM 27.5.

My raceface turbine cranks off the Canyon have a spindle width of 30mm so don't fit into the Sram Pressfit GXP pa+gf BB which is 24mm.

My question is whats the most affordable way around this? I can't find the BB shell size for the cube stereo online so not sure of the raceface 30mm cinch BB on my canyon will fit into the Cube BB shell.

I've read online that squeezing a 30mm BB into a small frame can leave little room for decent bearing space.

Am I better off buying new 24mm cranks?

    Thanks in advance.

If it's a GXP bb on the Cube you have to use 24mm crank.

Unless it's a DUB crankset you have and not BB30. Does it say BB30/PF30 on the crank?

    Cranks are 30mm spindle

I had the same issue - IMO the BB standards are intentionally complex and little information published about them in order to keep it as a bike-shop only job. Which to be fair, it usually is, but I far prefer to do my own maintenance.

I have a 2018 Stereo 140 HPC too, but the lower spec Race model. I takes the below BB which I recently bought. I expect your fame is the same, but check this.

The diameter on mine is 41mm and frame width is around 90mm (could be 89mm, could be 92mm) - so it's a BB86/BB92 system.

In terms of standard parts, the 30mm BB won't fit in, but you can get variations which will allow you to put a 30mm crank into the 41mm diameter frame.

I think you need something like this set, but please do you own checks to be sure. Without the central connector, and may be a little harder to get in straight, but should do the job.

The really pedantic mechanical engineer in me would say that less stiff bearing outer races, would be more likely to damage the carbon frame, and that smaller balls aren't so good, but that said I'd be putting that on my bike before buying a new crank. If you're in South Dublin and don't want to buy a bearing press or extraction tool just to use it once, send me a PM.

Thanks for the informative post and offer Kevin.

I've decided to let the experts in Rathfarnham handle it as I've other bits to be done. Will give most things a go on bikes but when the cost of buying tools and mistakes outweigh the cost of getting a professional to do it then it makes no sense.

    Cheers

You're welcome. It's a complete mess of needlessly complicated standards and can be hard to get a handle on.

Understandable alright, it can can get expensive buying tools, but for a €80 outlay this time(€55 on tools, €25 on part) I now have the tools to do maintain and do it next time for just the part cost. I'm handy enough, but hammering out the old BB the first time was disconcerting to be totally honest!
