Why do some people think social distancing doesn't apply to them?

Apologies if this has already been done, only been on here a short while!

So I had to go to the post office, in a small centre with a line of shops on 2 sides at a right angle around a carpark, the footpath along the shops is at least 2 meters wide with a set of arrows on each side 2 meters apart going in both directions along which most people are dutifully using! along come two 'wans walking and talking side by side down the middle with a f**k you attitude and not an ounce of consideration for anyone else! This has happened a few times, how hard is it to think of other people as well as yourself? It is no hardship to step to one side and do the thing anyone with an smidgen of social conscience would do!

Because many people don't pay attention to what can harm others in any walk of life. They don't care and are only looking out for themselves. Sadly its true.

Happens all the time, and not just "wans" as you put it.
At work I meet people, clients all the time, I'm out and about a lot.
I wear a mask and gloves a good bit and a badge with keep your distance on it, but the amount of people go to shake hands with you or invade your space is unreal.
I know it's hard to keep distance constantly, but some make no effort at all.

Likelihood of catching Covid from someone walking past you outdoors - almost nil

    You’ll be grand

I would be in a higher risk category than most due to underlying illness, I live alone so have to 'do' for myself, i shop early and avoid people when i can but it is not always possible, so I may not be 'grand'.

Doesn’t matter if it’s not possible to catch it though does it ?

If I fcuk myself up, that's on me, but if good science says its safer to distance then I would be very pissed off to die due to the ignorance of someone who won't even know they killed me!

I wear a badge with keep your distance on it

    Seriously?

Have you a serious health condition?

You do know that a leading Irish expert said last week that catching the virus in the community was a 1 in a million chance?

I think if you expect to be out in society and always be 2 metres from everyone you would be better staying indoors.

That's neither here nor there. If someone wants to wear a badge telling people to keep their distance then that's up to them.

I contracted my illness at 17 at the time the doctors said it was a one in a million for someone my age!

To quote the late lamented Terry prattchette, its a one in a million chance so it's bound to work :)

    Seriously, health and safety requirement.
I'm not afraid, but as I say it wouldn't do I was.
Have to fill in a sheet with my contacts through work everyday too.
