Hi I recently got imagine broadband installed in my house. It was working fine for me on my I phone as I was using the 5ghz and getting on average 50mbps speeds but I realised that my wife’s phone and laptop will only pick up the 2.4 ghz signal. I expected the speeds To be slower but speed test are showing an average of between 10-15 download. When using the mobile data the speed test are averaging 20mbps ! Which is faster than a service i am pay OMG 60€ a Month for. Would I have grounds to cancel my service if they can not improve the speeds( I am just over the cooling off period) . There is no point in having fast speeds on the higher frequency if my devices can not use them

You'll have no grounds to cancel.
    They provide a WAN Connection.

If your LAN Devices cannot connect to the network and attain the desired bandwidth, there is not responsibility on your ISP.

But surely the cannot expect a client to pay for an inadequate service. I understand they say up to a certain speed which is never attainable but surely you would expect a better service than you would get on your mobile data even when using it as a hotspot?

It is like having a 3G only mobile phone and then complaining that you can't get 4G or 5G speeds.

Any ISP provides the physical connection into your home only, very few will guarantee the WiFi performance (Virgin Red House install being only one that springs to mind).

They cannot guarantee wireless. Wireless is susceptible to local interference from the devices in yours and your neighbours houses. Get a WiFi analyser app for your smartphone and change WiFi channel to one with less noise

You said the devices can only connect to the 2.4ghz access point.
That band is suspect to interference all the time.
Are there other wireless networks around you?

How far from the access point are you when performing those tests?

Have you tried a cable connection directly to the router to see if the issue is local interference or an issue with the WAN link itself?

that my wife’s phone and laptop will only pick up the 2.4 ghz signal.

Im no fan of Imagine but its not their fault your wife has horrendously outdated hardware. 5Ghz was introduced in the iPhone 5 back in 2012 which is practically prehistoric when it comes to tech. Maybe buy her something a little less antiquated.

I've only just updated my missis from a One Plus X she had 4 years which is 2.4ghz only
