Is it illegal to ask for money on PayPal then use it for something else?

I asked some people on Reddit to help me and send me money for medication through PayPal ( €15 a week from random people). I used this money to buy xanax, codeine, and nicotine. My friend says this is fraud. Is this the case?

I'd lock you up for constantly making absolutely stupid threads.

Why would random people give you money?

It wasn't a service if that's what your thinking. No promises of anything. I just begged for it on a Reddit thread and one person handed me €15 for free. Another time, someone handed me €50.

Back to the question, is this illegal?

Trust me. I KNOW how that sounds like bull**** but it's real. It's not a lot to be honest €15-50.

    So basically you are begging.

    Yep that's illegal.

If you can scam money off people begging then that's their problem

    In my opinion, illegal:

Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001

6.—(1) A person who dishonestly, with the intention of making a gain for himself or herself or another, or of causing loss to another, by any deception induces another to do or refrain from doing an act is guilty of an offence.

    (2) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on conviction on indictment to a fine or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or both.

Basically, you induced them into giving you money for medication, and unless this medication is legit (nicotine is not medication) you can be done for deception. Amounts are small, but it doesn't matter if it's €1 or €1000000, it's still deception. Now, if you are obtaining the xanax and codeine with an actual prescription, you're technically not deceiving anyone, as you are indeed using it for the purpose you stated. However, if they are illegally obtained (without prescription), even if you consider it medication for you, it would still be deception.

Begging in itself isn't illegal, unless you beg within 15ft or so of a financial institution (banks, credit unions, etc) or ATM's, or it's 'aggressive' begging, ie: those fcukers that won't take no for an answer, or getting all up in yo face for it.

How can I make a thread to get myself attention but present it in a way that gives me plausible deniability as though that's not what I'm doing?

It would need to be declared to revenue also as income or as a gift.

Best hand yourself in now OP.

    Ok OP

I'll give you a suggestion. Buy a "burner second hand" phone. Get a tesco phone sim. Use this ONLY for a single deal.

When your Paypal account has received your amount, turn off the phone, take out the sim and dispose.
