Irish Water Connection

    Hello,

I am looking at getting connected to Irish Water on an existing property ( old cottage ) and made a pre-enquiry and they have said that they can connect me. I'm 90metres from the mains. There is a pipe running through the neighboring farmers field ( who we bought the house from ) to his water connection ( it was previously used to feed a mobile home that was on our site )

I want a new connection at that same spot ( so he had his existing connection and we have our new one ) but they say I must pay for infrastructure up the public road 90 to my entrance....... this will work out at around €27k according to the pricing structure on IW website ( anything over 10m is payable per meter on top of the standard connection charge )

We don't want to sink a well as the mains is just down the road and I'd prefer to be on mains water if at all possible.

I'm hoping that I go back to them and they will revert if I explain the set up in a better way than could be done on the pre enquiry application form...but going by what I hear about Irish Water and how they deal with new connections I won't hold my breath.

In a worst case scenario is it worth getting local TD's involved? Has anyone overcome this scandalous costing to have mains water ?

Could you not lay the 90m yourself and get IW to complete the connection to the mains or last 10m? Would it be on private property or a public roadway?

Yes that is what I am hoping for !! I was told though that they don't approve of anyone going through a 3rd parties property which to me is a joke if there's an agreement there between all parties involved. There is no way I am paying €27k for water and if people are having to it is absolutely scandalous.
