Lost signal

I use a Sky HD box for the free to air channels. Got a new dish installed a year or so ago due to rust on the old one.

We have had some heavy rain here in the last few minutes and lost the signal completely for a few minutes. It came back once the rain eased.

Do you think I need to get the dish realigned or is it just one of those things?

You can get what is known as "rain fade" in extreme rain showers. If the signal recovers as soon as the rain eases you should be OK. it's just the nature of the beast. However if it doesn't return for some hours/days you might have rain getting into the connections.

Same thing happened here earlier in the torrential rain. Returns immediately after the rain passes. Happens rarely except in very heavy rain.

The signal from the Astra satellites is very strong. If you are getting rain fade in heavy rain it is almost certainly slightly off alignment.

They don't say where they are, or the dish size. Or whether they checked to see if every channel went missing. Some channels are on transponders which are a lot weaker in good weather conditions where I am in Dundalk.

E.g. CNN (SD) 9 dB, Channel 5 HD 19 dB. On a 1.1 metre dish. With a dish that size I have never experienced the loss of all channels during rain. But it could have happened on occasions when I wasn't watching.

I’m in North Dublin with one of those newer small Sky dishes.

Yes every channel went. Signal went completely, wasn’t locked. Came back after the heavy downpour eased.
