Diesel in my petrol car, now high oil warning

    Hi,

Just got a nice 201 Passat Tiguan R-Line 150bp automatic, only about 2000km on it at this stage. Now first time the missus went went out in it and had put fuel in it she put diesel into it  don't know how she did as you know the nozzel shouldn't fit but she managed it fair play. Put about €20 into it (tank should have been at least half full but Im not sure)and then proceeded to dive about 250km....:(:(:(

Anyway I called her and when she realised she pulled off the motor way and we called a mechanic and they drained it etc. Now she did say she was seeing puffs of smoke etc coming out the back prior to this.

Anyway got the car back and drove it last night for the first time myself and it was drove great no real issues but a warning light came on saying oil level too high please drain. Checked the oil level myself this morning and it is high. Smelt the oil and I don't know should the oil smell of diesel or was my imagination but I thought it did.

Is my engine f**ked, have I burst a seal somewhere, Obviously I will bring to the garage for them to drain it. Don't know whether to say we drove it a couple hundred KMs with diesel in the tank.....what a disaster:confused:

    Change the oil and filter.

    Don’t go near a dealer.

This is critical you would want to be using an OE VW filter or else the dealer Will know it’s been changed the next service.

I’d change the fuel filter too.

Probably good to do it again, but surely the guy that drained it would have changed the filter? You'd hope so anyway..........

Dont know I'm based in cork and this was done in Portlaoise, I will make sure he uses all genuine VW parts anyway.

How can my engine oil level increase though without breaking something

i think the diesel clogs the cylinders and gets squeezed past the rings into the sump ?

Its good Karma that you're going to conceal the problem from the next owner when you hand it back.

The problem is someone will be on here in 2023 wailing that a VW dealer has duped them into a car with a wanked engine and everyone will be looking for a name and shame.

Anyway. As said, change the filters, be grand. If it's driving now it'll be grand. Warranty will cover any oil leak that could arise down the line. Victimless crime sort of a thing.

    I am confused,

    Is it
    A) a wanked engine as you call it

    OR
    B)
    It'll be grand.

Well, i haven't seen the car so i cannot say anything for sure. Based on descriptions though, the car is probably going to be fine after an oil service and a fuel filter with no lasting damage.

If you cant understand and digest my post in the context it was written then i cant really make it any clearer. Sorry.

    Sorry,
    But "context it was written"
Does not explain 2 opposing statements.

Basically, how it works is you read all the posts before mine in the order they were written, then read my post and then consider how my post applies to one or more previous posts the you add a post yourself if you've an contribution to make. You're on boards a good while so im not sure how you find that so difficult.

I dont have to explain my way out of anything really if you're any use at reading things. If you're having any more trouble than that then maybe you could contact the lads at www.nala.ie for a bit of a dig out.

Amyway, i think you're more keen to have a dig at me than help the OP so maybe do OP a favour and lend a bit of advice or just fork off cluttering his thread with pedantry.

Translated: it’ll probably be alright but there may be some damage that could cause issues down the line, though probably not.

How far was it driven like this? if it’s not far then the likelihood is the only real damage is to the oil and filters, hopefully.

Excuse me while I correct you.
Weren't you the one that chose my post to reply to?
    As for having a dig?
I will leave that to you.

    I asked a valid question.
You came back with 2 comments from the total opposite ends of the scale.
That certainly doesn't help the OP with his concerns.
