Open your windows at night. Close them during the day. In fact pull your blinds and curtains during the day. That's what people do in Italy, France, Greece etc.

But instead Irish people have this idiotic obsession in opening every door and window in the height of a summer's day to let the air in not understanding that they are actually letting heat in and then locking up tight at night to keep criminals out and the heat in. So on summer evenings/nights most Irish houses are actually hotter inside than it is outside. And then your typical Irish person will complain about the heat at night when they are the ones who turned their houses into sweatboxes.

We do everything wrong here. I wonder if people from everywhere else do everything wrong too when they're everywhere else?

Yep agreed, I've tried everything and found thats the best way, I also hung my unnecessary duvet over the curtains to prevent the evening sun blazing into the bedroom, and leave the fan on during the day, slept fine last night, happily.

Edit: except opening windows at night, I'm a light sleeper, the birds will wake me at 430, and my drug dealing neighbours come and go all night long also.

A hot drink on a hot day is the cure.tea is the best.
My father says when summer hit and he a young lad they used to remove their bedroom window upstairs and leave it under the bed for the summer.them half and half sash windows.
no robbers about in the country them days he reckons but he also said he had nothing worth bringing.
Could also be one of those “our summers were hotter than yere summers” stories though.
    Hard to tell.
