Land Registry

I know this has been asked before, but I can’t find an exact match for my query.

A house and land has come up for sale next door to us. On the land registry map (Computer screenshot?) that the estate agent has on the ad, it clearly implies the outline of the land - along a watercourse. However, I know for a fact that the County Council have a water pumping station and fenced off area in that location.

My question is this; where is the single source of truth to say if this is council or private land? I doubt the council made any mistakes when acquiring this land years ago - but is there a chance that this land is rightfully for sale and the council would need to compensate the owners?

I’m not trying to make a quick buck, but am genuinely interested in the land. If there are issues over the rightful ownership I would like to know now when making an offer.

Check the map yourself on landdirect.ie. You will see there the extents of the land holding and any wayleave the local authority may have over it
