Appealing the end of JSB

Hi I don't have great experience of the system, I'd be interested in any insight that people could share.

I'm out of work for six months, my jsb has ended. I've ten years of stamps. Is there any way to appeal?

I had a job lined up that got cancelled due to covid, and recruitment was limited for the last several months.

Is there a chance of any allowance being made for this?

If an emergency payment was brought in for a big part of the population, surely some allowances should be made for job seekers too? It's not for the lack of trying that I haven't found something new.

You should have 9 months of JSB if you had 5 years of stamps.

Once JSB is over they will means test you for job seekers allowance which you can go on as an alternative. It's a terrible system where those who have provided for themselves are not looked after when they hit hard times.

Thanks. Just seems strange that there's no allowance for the last few months. Getting punished for not getting a job when no one was getting them

My jsb is up in November and I'm terrified I won't get another job by then and will have to dip into savings that I have put by for future. Scary times.

Welcome to the real world - lots of people have been dipping into their savings for the last few months.

Why does every second post on this site have to be a smart ass one. I was merely stating a fact . I know lots of people are dipping into savings. I have been doing so myself and I have great empathy for all those in difficult times. Maybe you should try having some too.

I know the system very well as I worked that area. Try and gett yourself a part time job. That where hours are less than 30. You are en entitled to seek x's and 0's. You will receive 3 days jsb -120 euro. When they bring you in as they will once or twoce a year tell them that your employer will offer you full time employment when things improve.

It's not clear from your post whether or not you're aware of the existence of the (means tested) Jobseekers Allowance payment.

If you're not, then you should check it out.

JSB is paid for 156 days or 234 days depending on when you worked and paid contributions. It is calculated in the calendar year 2 years before you claim. So claims for 2020 are based on contributions paid in 2018, not your full 10 year employement history (which you dont say but could have been spread over any number of years) When it is due to run out you will be sent a form to complete to apply for JSA, this is a means tested payment. The majority of people qualify for the same rate JSA as JSB. The most common reason you wont qualify for the full rate are
    You are under 25
You are living with a partner on a good income
    You own land or property
You have a serious amount of savings

You can check online your contribution history and print out a statement
