Firstly, thank you for reading my post.

I took an overdose last week and was admitted to Beaumont Hospital (5 days inpatient). I was discharged two days ago. I had taken alcohol and a huge cocktail of medicine. I need help as a result of depression and work related stress.

I have a bed available fortunately at St Patrick's hospital. However, I have very very bad memories of that hospital having visited my late mum in a lock down ward. My mum and dad were both in st John of God's hospital in stillorgan for alcohol many many years ago and felt it was a more warming environment. I have to phone st John of gods on Monday to see if they will accept my referral. I have come off my antidepressants and not a sip of alcohol has passed my lips as i want to go to hospital with a clear head.

Does anyone have any experience of these hospitals? Not only do I need help for my mental health bit I want to get fit again (Covid gut). Are there gym facilities? Are the bedrooms modern? Food healthy?

I am very anxious about taking this step to recovery so any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Wickey

Thank you for your post. Firstly, I just wanted to wish you every good wish for your recovery. I hope you get everything you need to help you with it.

Im going to close this thread here. Although it's information on a hospital you are looking for, I really think given the gravity of your situation if you went back to your doctors and discussed with them your anxiety about St Patrick's and your wish to instead go to St John Of God's it would be more beneficial to you and ease your anxieties straight away. Write down your concerns and wishes in relation to both and make sure they hear you.

Personal Issues is full of fantastic posters who would be more than willing to give great advice if they could, but I really think this is a conversation you need to have with your doctors.

Very best of luck with your recovery.

    Thanks

    HS
