    Hi All,

Help: We have a holiday booked to France in July sailing with Irish Ferrieswhich i had a booking deposit paid on. With all the doubt atm with travel restrictions we have decided to give it a miss and didn't pay balance on booking. I just noticed now that irish ferries have helped themselves and taken the balance from my account

I tried contacting them but as it is out of office hours no reply

    1. I dont think they entitled to do that ?
    2. Please check your account or cancel your booking booking if you dont intend going as it appears they will just take the balance.

Just wondering were I stand on this

    Thanks in advance

Have you checked what you agreed to?

Why criticise Irish ferries if they only did what you signed up to do and you didn't tell them any different? All I can see is that full amount is due 8 weeks in advance.

If that wasn't in your terms then call them and ask them to reverse the payment, and if no result, call your bank.

Fyi I am not criticising Irish Ferries. I asked for advice as in with the current travel restrictions are they allowed to take a final payment while the government has not lifted travel restrictions.

If you were due to sail up to 12th July then you can get 100% credit to be used by end of 2021. We were due to sail to Holyhead on the 10th and are just putting the trip off until next year.

You'd have to ask Irish Ferries that

Micko they are still sailing, but you need to tell them if you will not travel and tell them in advance.

As said they will give credit in bookings up to 12th July. You are after the 12th of July so not covered by that scheme. You need to call them see what they will do. But call them asap

If you cancel within 42 days they'd credit 75% or if within 21 days it's 50%. I held out to the last minute for mine and on day 42 I said I'd do one last check before I rang to cancel for my 75% and that morning they extended the date to the 12th. At this point you're pushing even the 21 days. However it would be worth contacting them and asking on the basis that you though not paying the balance would result in cancellation, although if it's in their t&c's that they can take it then you may get nowhere. I'd try ringing first thing.

All the info you need, including links, is in the megathread.......

We were due to sail next weekend but postponed to 2021. Deposit has been transferred.

We dealt with them by email and found it straightforward. Others have found contacting them via social media more effective.

Just for anybody that may be in the same situation and beginning to panic as I was. I spoke with a representative of Irish Ferries today who was very helpful and accommodating and arranged full credit until the end of 2021 which is great, So no holiday this year but at least nect year is paid for.

    Thanks to all for advise

Great result. I always feel the ferry companies are more forgiving than the airlines.

Not all Airline operate like Ryanair/AerLingus , Lufthansa have allowed my family of 5 to book ANY date up to the end of 2021 for cancelling our July 2020 flights , No fare difference applies as long as departure/destination airports remain the same.
