FTTH slows to a crawl every night

I have FTTH 150 mb package with Vodafone. every evening from about 8 pm it slows down to around 0.5mbps to 1 mbps . The next day my speed goes back up to 144 mbps and come evening drops again to 0.5 or 1 mbps.

    I have a Vodafone Gigabox CC30 modem.

My pc is hard wired to modem , as is my tv hardwired and a camera. Wifi is turned off on modem as I don't use wifi.

I had the 150 mb package with Eir for a year previously which worked perfectly all the time, but when my 12 month contract with Eir was up , I switched to Vodafone as they were doing 150 mb package for 25 euro a month for 12 months. It worked perfect for 4 months, then this started happening.

This problem started about 2 months ago , I have rang Vodafone a good few times about this , they got me to reset the modem and try new cables but the problem remains.

Just wondering has anyone come across this before ?

    @MANSFIELD

I'd check with Vodafone if your speeds are being throttled in the evening. It's unlikely to be contention IMHO, to me it sounds like throttling. They have something kicking in on your account at certain times. It's unlikely to be the hardware IMHO, why would it magically be back to full speed during the day. Happened to my sister where there was a profile incorrectly added to their account and their speeds were much less than they should have been. Called Vodafone asked that they check and low and behold they removed the profile form the account and speeds restored.

Profiles are not set on a demand/variable basis in Ireland. This was a one off glitch.

Others are reporting the same as the OP. Something is seriously wrong with a segment of VFs net.

Before even entering the thread I knew it would be Vodafone, colleague of mine has the same internet, and was getting woeful speeds, hes on 1gbps and was getting 50mbps, rang them and they said no worries, I can see here your at 50mbps ill bump that up to 300mbps, like they were doing him a favor. Told him straight away that made no sense and now I have got him to move over to Digiweb, Vodafone have become absolutely awful internet providers

    A very wild statement .

By all means it seems that VF have some seriously problematic network issues.

That does not translate into a generalisation such as yours.

IMHO, all service providers will have weak points in their network (s). The trick for all of us is to correlate services with exchanges in order to build up a consumer-owned profile of which ones are best where....

Well they were the most complained about fixed line operator last year, excelling the record holders Eir:

thus its not just purely technical related nor is it isolated.

Eir took that crown for mobile and is likely influenced by the wobbly few weeks of GoMo's launch.

I could have wrote this myself. Exact same thing happening to me. Even the same timescale. Started happening couple months ago. At the moment right now speeds are all over the place. Starts at 20Mbps and drops all the way down to 1Mbps on speedtest.

I've rang them numerous times and all they've said is nothing they can do as it's network problem. I literally can't use it now at the moment when I want it most and using my data on phone as hotspot even though I'm paying €65 for it. Had Eir last year and was spot on 24/7.

Point taken. You seem to be quite correct and VF does appear have a lot of core network issues.

I re-iterate that "IMHO, all service providers will have weak points in their network (s). The trick for all of us is to correlate services with exchanges in order to build up a consumer-owned profile of which ones are best where...."

    I'll start: Athlone exchange... 28.6.2020 Normal down/ up of 80/18 reporting as 2/11 @ 21:00
