Should the peace bell have rang the Angelus.

As Detective Horkan was a practicing Catholic would it have been a more fitting symbol to him if the peace bell had rang the Angelus at 12pm. Would it have been more meaningful and respectful to his religious beliefs rather than a single ring to start the minutes silence.

I think it could be argued that it wouldn't be appropriate because the bell is a secular monument, and it symbolises reconciliation following a conflict polarised on religious (and other) grounds.

It's not commonly observed by Catholics in other countries (and even here). We have a weird fixation with it because of the slot on TV.

If a Muslim Garda was killed, would you want the President to perform the adhan, just because of the deceased's faith?

The single ring of the bell was dignified, respectful and appropriate.
