A butterfly dream

    In a Mícheál Ó Siadhail poem, Timepiece, from his collection The Chosen Garden, is the following verse:

    I’d heard her tell the story of the sleeper’s soul:
    butterfly leaving his mouth to wander and return;
    when he woke his dream had been the insect’s journey.

    The “her” referred to is a woman from the Aran Islands. Does anyone know any more about this story/legend? I cannot find it online.
