UK Sky Box Query

Hi, if I get a UK Sky+ HD Box (expired sub, no card), will it be similar to an Irish Sky+ HD box with an expired UK Card ?

In other words does a UK Box (without Card) have the same EPG as an Irish box with a UK-expired Card ?

I've had a look, but can't seem to find a definitive answer here.
    Thanks.

The UK box should have BBC 1 on101 but it will depend on the region the sub was was used in, in some regions BBC 1 could be in sd with HD further down the list. There will be no Irish channels on the UK box other than radio.

Is it not the card that determines the settings

I have an old sky box in a second living room we used to have sky in.

I got a "free to air" sky card from Scotland and BBC Scotland is 101

If I enter the subscription card I have in the main room (2 satellite dishes on the house) it shows as rte1 on 101

Yes, it depends on the region the card was used in, a box on an Irish sub will default to RTE 1 on 101, a UK box will default to BBC 1 on 101. The card tells the box where it is BBC NI, NE or London, depending on the original sub.

Can you add an external sub to a uk card in Ireland?

Do you mean an external HDD, not that I know of, a big drawback of using a Sky box, there was a time when you could connect to a VHS recorder.

i have an expired Irish Sky HD box, even pulling out the card left the EPG as Irish.
I couldnt view old recordings, or record /pause etc the free stations.

So I was able to acquire an old expired UK card
It not only gives me the UK EPG, but it also allows me to use the record / pause etc functions

I have been using a uk card in an old hd box for ages and have never been able to record/pause.
Are you sure that this is working for you???
    Thanks

This is only a glitch and only works for some cards that were once used with a UK sub. And it sometimes happens that that the uk sub is cancelled but the card does not get the full kill code ie box may be switched off. I have quite a few uk cards and only one gave the record facility and that ended after a few months.

To be clear there is no such thing as an “Irish” or “UK” Sky box - the hardware used in both countries is identical. All boxes come from the factory with the U.K. EPG by default and it is the initial pairing with an Irish card that changes it to the Irish EPG.

Sorted in one post mate 100%:

I've purchased four sky DRX595 multiroom boxes all from the uk in brand new still in the box condition and there idenyto those fitted by sky in Ireland.
Contrary to this I've fitted expired uk sky cards for freeview channels and there operating 100% as saw in my home improvement thread where I've done a section on getting the most from the television without any subscription costs:

I have a FTV card previously used on a Sky subscription and all four BT Sport channels still clear on it. I keep wondering if they'll ever cop on! Pity they aren't in HD though.
