Contention Ratio with Eir, how bad can it get ?

    Hi,

We had Eir broadband installed on Monday, speed test showed 95mb Down and 19 up which sounds about right seeing as the Eir website estimated we would get 90. We have done a couple of speed tests since, the lowest it dropped before today was 78, but today it’s 48 (although the upload speed is still 19).

I know it’s the weekend but how bad can this get ?, I’m assuming it’s like this because of the contention ratio ?.

    Thanks in advance

Testing while wired to the modem or over WiFi?

Could be an unstable sync, could be contention.

Watch the DSL stats page of your router and see if the current rate/max attainable rate fluctuates massively over a few hours.

I've had Eir broadband in Ennis for the last few years and I have Google Wifi which automatically records download and upload speed for me. It's been rock solid on 74M down and 18M up, but since 13th June it's gone down to around 60M down and 8M up. I don't know if it's contention or a bigger problem brewing at the Eir wireworks (everyone using more broadband).

If they reprofiled you it'd be 60_20. Youve got a fault.
