Anyone any feedback on having the egr deleted via the ecu on an N47 bmw ? Does the car drive much better afterwards (even before remapping) ? Should the likes of Joe power be able to turn off the egr? Any effect on the dpf ?

most of us don't know what an EGR is

IMO EGR deletes are usually some form of cop out. Either by a mechanic who hasn't the capabilities to properly fix a problem or an owner who doesn't want to pay for one. That and they were desirable years ago when EGR's were very unreliable in some models.

I've seen on some fresher stuff people mapping the car to tell the EGR to stay closed 100% of the time. I cant see really why anyone would want that. Asa standalone mod, what is it offering particularly when you consider the risks.

For me, if it's broken then get it replaced and if it's working then leave it be. Unless you are going for loads of mods and big power etc.

The real benefit of it is it stops the intake getting clogged up with carbon but some engines are worse than others for this... As a standalone performance mod it will make no difference

That's why I'm looking at getting it done. On initial inspection of the MAP sensor it's caked with soot so I can only imagine what the intake and swirl flaps are like and also getting a position control fault code for egr as well. And on top of that I understand that the dpf won't regen properly if there's any egr fault codes.

I'm all for leaving stuff as it but if it prevents **** like above then I'm in favour of eliminating it.

Image below of what codes it's showing at the moment.

My 535d gains 30-40bhp if I remove the EGR, DPF and replace with a straight pipe.
Not sure whether to do it or not as it could be hassle for the yearly NCT (it’s a taxi).

It’s already running stage 1 remap at 360bhp.

The dpf is one thing that I'll be leaving alone given that the MOT is checking for them now and we'll probably follow suit eventually.

Why do some people think its okay to defeat pollution control measures?

Do they burn rubbish in their back garden to save on bin charges too?

Probably the main reason why I’ll leave it in place.

Because it cost thousands when it go wrong. It big business in trucking game if adblue gone wrong to bypass it and even some hauliers get it bypass to save on cost of adblue

Bypassing a device designed to reduce pollution is selfish and ignorant.

No it not when a new AdBlue pump for Renault tractor unit is up around 9000euro . Don't blame hauliers blame the government for not checking for AdBlue being disabled .

Bimmer tool app I have is showing at the time of screenshot 57% for egr actuator at idle. Haven't a clue if that's good or bad.

That's no excuse. Running a vehicle isn't cheap but deleting standard equipment designed to minimise emissions just isn't acceptable.

Just because something isn't checked doesn't make it optional.

So don't buy a Renault tractor. Cheaping out at the expense your fellow mans health is a disgrace. I had a friend with that attitude. Removed DPF from his car and regularly burned rubbish at the side of his house when waste collection was privatised. There were nappies in those black bags too, as well as tin cans and all kinds of rubbish. Not his problem was his attitude.

Has anyone seen any conclusive evidence of those engine cleaning services actually working?
I'm still amazed that noone has done a deep dive before/after inspection to see what they actually do. Most reviews are either great/****e based on nothing other than their feeling.
I have a car with a EGR which had almost closed over some pipes and clogged the intake manifold. Made a complete mess of the engine.
I would like to keep it std so would be interested in seeing some independent footage of the viability of engine carbon cleaning.
Does anyone know much about it?
