Thought this was a bargain myself but I stand to be corrected as I'm not up to speed on the real technical side of things but for an android tv for the spare room it'll do me nicely.

Sharp 4T-C55BL3KF2AB 55-inch 4K UHD HDR Android TV with Freeview HD, Google Assistant, Google Chromecast, 3 x HDMI, 2 x USB and Bluetooth, BLACK

    55 inch is €465 delivered

    50 inch is €385 delivered

Anybody else have an opinion on this - is it good value or are there better alternatives?

Just an opinion (but maybe worth considering)

When it comes to smart tvs I think its worth considering getting a fairly okay tv with satellite and terrestrial tuners and just hdmi. Then plug in a fire stick/apple tv or other kit.

For example this (or shop around)

    https://powercity.ie/product/220203

I've spent a good bit of money getting fancy tvs over the years - and tbh the built in stuff like android functionality is always slower than a standard fire tv. And isn't maintained as well as a android or apple plug in device.

For example the one above integrates the rte channels and free to air in one screen - and the remote works on a fire tv plugged into it.

The prices on the sharp tvs you listed arent bad though :-)

Not a bargain, just a normal price. Sharp are fairly low-end TV's, for that price you can buy a 55" Samsung or LG from your local Currys or whatever.

In fact you can get something like this in Currys for €400, plug a 4K firestick into it and you have a better TV and better Android functionality as well for less money.....plus no hassle with warranty either.

And to compare against the smaller Sharp for €385, for €350 Curry's have the 49" 4K JVC Fire TV edition available as well.

None of the TV's are particularly terrible value or anything, but you're getting exactly what you paid for from Amazon - not particularly good value, equally not bad value or anything, but definitely not a bargain.

What about the 55 linsar from richer sounds?

    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-204406-linsar-55uhd8000fp-55-inch-4k-ultra-hd-smart-led-tv-freeview-play.aspx?swapstore=1

Works out at just over 330 if you use revolut and pay in gbp, 6 year warranty too

Again we're not talking bargains, we're just talking about getting what you pay for. "Linsar" is about as low quality as a TV can go these days whilst still functioning. Six year warranty with Richer Sounds helps, but not a TV I'd be buying personally.

I'd much rather at least get the 55" Hisense for €360 from Littlewoods (€399 in Currys) posted above which is a far better quality and better built TV.

Spotted this a few weeks ago just waiting for stock to be replenished
Ambilight and Android TV which means 2 less things to plug in (no need for Firestick or Chromecast) reduces the number of remotes also

Do you use the Freesat functionality on that TV?

I've read that those particular LG's aren't decoding BBC HD channels correctly, resulting in picture break up / pixelation
