Before I ask my main question I want to know if I making a mistake regarding the blackout blinds from Ikea.

    They come in various sizes - 60 x 195cm up tp 140 x 195cm

The 195cm is the length - and on a window the length is the drop or top to bottom.

    This is correct isn't it?

Yep, the blinds unravel to 195cm but you only open them as much as you need so once your window is less than 195cm long they are fine. I have them in my bedroom and they are great. But i have them hung on the wall and not in the window frame so get better blackout from them, no little light gaps at the edges

The light at the edges is what I was concerned plus my budget is limited.

The least expensive options are Ikea and Argos.

The blinds in Ikea are all too small as the window is about 156cm wide. I was considering two Schottis blinds but they look very and might not hold to gluing two together. Would be messy anyway I think.

Argos have 5 and 6 foot blinds. The 6 foot would be too big to put outside the widow recess and I don't want to have to cut and trim. The 5 foot might fit into the existing fittings (I think the material is what they measure) but the issue is the light at the edge. I can't think of what use to block that out.

I bought blackout blinds custom made and because they are inside the window there are little gaps at the end. Overall I'm happy with them though.

Cheapest I can find for custom made is a guy on eBay but there is a long list of order ahead of me - which gets longer the more I hesitate and fuss.

From around £50 for blackout blinds the width you're looking for.

No connection other than as a a previous customer.

I checked these guys out already.

It would be €60+ and I would still have light getting in. I'm on a strict budget and normal I'd just spend but I'm training myself to behave.

The light that gets in at the sides is the real problem.

It isn't a big to get the Argos 5 foot and see if it fits. I can always return it as I pass the local one regularly.

I just can't find solutions for the sides.

If I could find out whether the stick-on Schottis blinds in Ikea are strong and would last that would be best on the pocket.

Could you not just get a bigger blind than you need and fit it outside the recess, that should limit the amount of light leaking.
