Loss of acceleration over 100kmph

    Hi folks,

Just looking for some advice on this prior to getting it looked at.

07 1.9 TDI Passat, car drives as normal during lower speeds/lower gears.

Only recently noticed when the car is pushed over 100kmph (random between 100 & 120) she seems to loose power under acceleration. Car still drives, no loss of electrics or any warning lights but when I drop down to lower gears it's very obvious there's no poke.

When I stop the car, turn off and restart the issue is gone and the car accelerates as normal until we get the loss of acceleration power again.

This is obviously not ideal, wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it could be? Research shows possible fuel filter problems but would that account for the issue only occuring over 100kmph?

    Appreciate any info.

That could be overboost stopping the turbo spinning up to prevent engine damage - the engine goes into a kind of limp mode.

The vanes in the turbo could be coked up and sticking a little, or the vacuum solenoid isn't working properly.

Google "Mr. Muscle turbo clean tdi" for more info and possibly an easy fix.

Sounds like something that would be expensive to fix?

Thanks, that's very interesting. Although the second result is a guy stating he thinks he's ruined his engine while attempting :) I don't think I could explain that to the missus if she seem me with Mr muscle and the bonnet up :D

Nah, shouldn't be. Either the turbo needs to be cleaned out (most likely I would say) or there's an issue with the actuator/vac line/vac solenoid.

Yeah, just saw that. Don't set your car on fire. That won't help. :pac:
(looks like that was an exhaust leak into the engine bay)
