I need a bar welded on my pen (the bar fell off) and there is no electricity near the pen

    What are my options

Would a petrol generator be strong enough for a small welder (there is only a very small bit of welding to be done

I know nothing about welding but OH does. We got a local guy to come to our place last Winter to weld tubular steel sections along part of the fence of the lagoon for extra security. He brought his own generator and inverter welder.

Look for a guy who advertises a "mobile welding service" locally.
If you had a few jobs lined up, it would spread the call-out cost.
If you have a basic aircooled ( or oil cooled) welder, you could borrow or hire a generator, but get one 5kva upwards.
I personally wouldn't use an inverter welder on a basic generator, I'd be afraid of frying the electronics..

I cannot answer your question on welding.
An option may be scaffolding fitting.
They come in all shapes and sizes and their sole purpose is to tie metal poles together.

Two neighbours here within the space of a week offered me their genny welders, so they are out there. Old style welders (non invertor tyoes) should be fine.

    Hi,
I hired out a "weld-gen" last weekend to weld a bracket to an RSJ. Did the job no problem.

Its a generator and welder in one unit.

How much to hire out for a day

I have a 6.5KVA diesel generator and a small inverter welder and it welds perfect in the right hands.

I know nothing about welding but could Oxyacetylene Gas be an option?

Can it be bolted on? cordless drill and a few bolts?
Can you take whatever it is that needs welding off, and bring it to a welder?
Can you make up the bar in such a way you can bring it out to the pen and bolt it on, i.e. add an extra lug or two as a place to bolt it?

Welders are VERY power hungry, you need a fairly substantial generator to run a welder.

Rent out a genset, every hire compmay has them, would probably be something like €50 for the day
