Emergency at work. Can I be fired?

Hey guys so I was at work today and I had to leave early due to a family emergency, my elderly mother was rushed to hospital with chest pains and I was far too upset to work the remaining 4 hours of my shift. And since she was in my local hospital, and I haven't seen her since Christmas, I asked my boss if I could leave. She got annoyed and told me to just go. I was the only employee working in my section (it's a deli) which means she had to work the remaining hours of my shift. (we just opened back up so we get like 7 customers a day at the moment, it's really quiet). She works the deli every now and again and has shifts on the rota so it wouldn't have been strange for her to work it. She's been treating me like **** and being very aggressive since I returned to work so I'm sure this isn't going to help my case. But what I'm wondering is, should I expect to be fired when I return to work? It says nothing about emergency leave or anything like that on my contract so I know I'm not covered for a situation like that. Maybe I shouldn't have left. I know it was a ****ty thing to do but I just had to put my elderly mother before everything in that moment.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

She let you go so you couldn't be let go, for these types of cases force majeure should be used or as you asked most employers would be understanding.

No, you shouldn't be sacked. She's probably just annoyed that she had to cover your shift. These things happen, you did the right thing.

she has treated you like **** since you returned to work, but you left your shift early, and you want to know if you can be sacked when you do return to work.
    this isn't making much sense........

    Shes a bxtch.

If you're there longer than 6 months and have a contract, she can't fire you for something like that on the spot, and if she does you could probably make a claim for unfair dismissal.

This was why force majuere leave was brought in, 3 days in one year or 5 days in two years if you are suddenly or unexpectedly called away from work for the care of another person including but not limited to your mother. Your boss was probably only stressed and may have taken it out on you, its stressful times to be self employed or in management.

I think you should talk to her. Tell her about your situation and try to mend your relationship with her.

Relationships in work are more important than your performance.

It really depends on how long you have worked there. If it's over a year then you're fully safe, don't worry, manager was probably just stressed and being mean because of that, don't worry.

You mention that your mother was rushed to hospital with chest pains, then say, she was already in the local hospital?

You mention that you have not seen your mother since last Christmas?

Its now 3rd week in June. I would not divulge this to your employer.

Covid-19 lockdown kicked in early March.

Force Majeure leave is exactly for this type of family emergency.

They cannot sack you for this. Hope your mom is okay?

The op made one post and you feel the need to call someone you know absolutely nothing about names, there's three sides to every story

Plus it's likely that the manager was just pissed off because having to cover in the deli was taking away from other tasks she had to get done during her shift.
