Hi there, I am wondering the same thing as you, based here in South Kilkenny, topline farm painters came in in a silver hilux, asked if I'd consider letting him quote for washing and painting a 3 span round roof hay shed here with side sheeting from top down to 6 foot from ground running along one side. He said they normally charge 300 a column and siad there are 4 columns on mine (I assume he means pillars) and quoted 950. Said they have insurance and could show it before starting. I asked him would they be using a hoist and he said probably but the lads would look and decide if hoist or ladders. Interested in any others experiences of there are any.

Yes..a similar crew were offering their services around east cork last Tuesday..they were driving a blue Mercedes vito.. also claimed to be from mallow.. I'd be doubtful and very suspicious about any of these people.. they can all try to talk the talk and walk the walk..and the glossy fliers are all similar and easily got... last year these guys were also about and even claimed that they had just completed work for neighbors in the community..but when these neighbors were questioned they hadn't had any work done..
Lesson for today only hire known and reputable contractors..

Yes these seemed semi professional compared to some of the crews who come around at times touring for work. But agree, def worth checking with the others around he mentioned. Though the big test would be no robberies and paint still on 8 yrs later!

There is a Murphy chap in Callan doing this work for years. Highly recommended and I am nothing to him.

It sounds like I'm not far from you.I had a visit also quoted 950 for four span including patching holes.Said he was painting at the stud farm up the hill.
Pickup constantly on the road for the last week or so.Could be a silver Suzuki Vitara involved as well.

check the validity of the insurance by calling the insurance company/broker and verifying

I have a round roof hayshed here (Timber trusses) and the plan now is to remove the round roof and put an A roof and coloured cladding. No more painting and washing. Going to try extend it a few bays also while I am at it.
Getting a shed lad to do it, I seen a similar job he done 18 months ago and its class

Any photo of the new job? Badly need to repair exactly what you have...taking too much of a risk each year by not repairing..

      ......

or check their Vat No. No sign of them on the CRO.ie website either.

you can be fully legit and not have a VAT number

bigger issue is insurance and then quality of paint
