Hi Folks, I'm looking to replace my aging and slow HDD with an SSD on my old but hardy Lenovo ThinkPad. Can someone tell me what this slot at the bottom left is for? (I marked it with a red X) Is it a spare slot for some sort of flash drive?

Most likely a space for a LTE/4G modem module, optional extra with the laptop. You should have a SIM card slot in the bay for the battery or on the side.

read up on the laptop exact model manual online and search lenovo forums

if it is an m.2 slot you can add in an m.2 ssd but need to check size 2280 (22mm x 60mm), 2242 etc

thanks folks, I'll look it up. Doesn't really matter, I'm just going to upgrade the RAM and HD anyway, was just curious. It's an old enough machine but still going strong.
