62 illegal scrapyards operating in Fingal, have to laugh at the assumption that some operators don't know they are acting illegally. Council seem to be afraid to actually implement the law and shut these places down, I wonder why :pac:

Mr Daly said that some people do not know they are breaking the law by running the yards and warned that those who continue to run an unauthorised scrapyard run the risk of being prosecuted under the waste management act.

He said many people do not realise they are doing anything illegal by bringing their car to an unauthorised scrapyard and they "just see the cash for car sign".

    Is this ‘cultural’?

Manufacturers are now getting to the stage where every electronic component needs to be coded to the car, which needs a live internet connection to the factory to get the security clearance.

As much as the DIY mechanic in me hates that approach, hopefully it will put some stop to cars being stolen and broken down within hours.

Operating illegally? 50 Gardai raid the place and shut it down, and send the overtime bill to the owner. Rinse and repeat the following day.

These operators are the same dirty filthy scum that purchase stolen lead and copper from thieves.

But the Irish authorities turn the same old blind eye.

How is it they're only noticing this now most of them moved onto public land which they now own as they got possession due to been left on it, I remember a lot of these places from when I was a kid so how were they allowed to continue untouched.

This is where many exhaust and cats are going and melted down.

These people have no care for the environment and them plots of land will be extremely contaminated as will and probably is the water table.

Shocking how they can do as they please.

Exactly. Allowing public land to be used for an illicit enterprise that pollutes the area is a disgrace.

So did I ... But why make it into a race issue or an us and them issue, call it what it is ,dodgy scammers running an illegal operation ... If the council reckon they can do the job more effectively with a softly softly approach then good ( as long as they back it up with a big stick in a couple of months time ) ,

But if people start attaching labels and slurs then you're into discrimination territory ,and cases of "victimisation"
If you call me a prick - I think meh ,
    If you call a black prick , - you're a racist ...
