Small town life

    Love it? or hate it?

I am reasonably happy to live in a position where for example, know and saying hello to my brother in law parents or my cousin husband's sister,:p on the other hand, I have heard truly bizarre gossip that would make you wonder.

As any holiday is going to be a staycation I looked up a certain area on boards in the region section and this is a very large town, region and its truly bonkers for example people knowing every detail of every primary school and full of gossip abou the staff or knowing who the school principles husband is. Why are people so interested in issues like that? and that is just one example.

Its like something from the 1950s

Maybe its to do with the fact that even in areas with a large population if there is more unemployment than the rest of the country there is a lot of watching and gossip about the fabled good jobs, plus maybe there are more people around to be watching each other.

I trust this short documentary will explain matters satisfactorily:

There's a certain about of kudos of having information no one does that appeals to people who like being the cener of attantion. It's where they get validation. And if they don't have info - or info that's not all that interesting - they will exagerate it or make it up.

It's unbelieveably satisfying when they get caught out red-handed.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Is it true? You know, what I heard about him? His poor wife.

Anyway, keep this under your hat, but I hear he's at it again. God forgive me, if he was my husband, I'd put him six feet under. And her only after having a baby. Although if the rumours are true, she had it for someone else. Anyway, you didn't hear any of this from me.

Don't forget their iconic single about the 'N - 17'

    uttered like

    "ENNnnnnn SEVenteeeeN"

Music Video is apt in all respects too

    That is actually very poignant.

At first I loathed the relatively unhurried pace of small town life, needed to get away and experience other sights & sounds. Lived abroad for a while, with spells in Dublin, Galway and Limerick at different intervals. Eventually found my way back in early thirties (no, I'm not a centenarian). Discovered that wherever you go, there you are. Not trying to shake the cage anymore. And having endured more than one large city, I now positively embrace the tranquil nature of my home town. The absence of smog, countryside mere yards out the door, taxi/bus drivers not aggressively careening around the corner and a general relaxed atmosphere all adding to a pleasant sense of wellbeing. And most people mind their own business as a bonus.
