Has anybody else here working in IT support gotten a pay cut?, everybody in my workplace got 20%. Just curious as it seems to be as busy as ever.

Certainly none of the global’s I know of, I did hear one of the large service providers cut 15% but not all staff. Most have publicly stated no pay cuts or layoff’s in 2020.

I do know most have some form of pay freezes, reduced pension contributions, no promotions and reduced or cut bonuses.

    Not for me anyway thankfully.

In one of my friends company everyone get a 10% paycut, and their hours increases due to how busy the company was. The compnay is back to pre-covid levels, but management wont restore pay.

Instead of restoring pay, they said they will have pay reviews in October. The staff suspect the reviews will be a restoration. A number of employees have left due to the less pay/more hours situation, the company won't replace them, as a result there is a lot more work to do.

IT Support does not generate revenue so that's why it's possible pay cuts can happen while you are as busy as ever. This is assuming it's internal IT Support as opposed to an IT Support consultancy business. If it is a consultancy business you're working for then I would be asking questions

We were just as busy through COVID so no pay cuts.

A 20% pay cut is a huge chunk of change, Time to start serious inquiries of switching companies.

This is the biggest crock going. Any large company charges internally for its IT support services.

I’ve actually heard of redundancies in IT, personally our pay rises have been put on the long finger, but I didn’t expect anything else TBH.

20% pay cut is huge, I’d be looking around, it’s very unfair to expect the same output and working time for that kind of a cut. If you were to get 4% raise per year that’s 5 years wiped off your comp.
    Unfair

No pay cuts here... They just cut ~40% of staff instead. Those of us that remain get no comp review this year, and no bonus. Still get usual RSUs

Edit: not IT support, tech multinational with cuts across all departments

I was with a global company working in IT up to December last year when I changed job. That company is now reducing their FTEs by 10% and letting go of their CIO, IS Director and CISO along with various other IT and Security staff. I doubt they'll be able to cope at all. The extra work that needs to be divided up will be burning out the remaining employees, who may look for other jobs.

A couple of guys left here too, I was due a pay review right before the lurgy landed.

It's not internal support, we support a few big companies and also sell equipment.

I was due for one literally this week, we're only 10% down like.

You say you're busy, but are the sales people still charging the same amount?

What about the financial projections for the next 12 months - are they good or bad?

I work in IT too. Exactly like you - we are as busy as ever but were given 20% cuts (and the company is ALSO using the subsidy scheme! Our update was vague too - a company wide email to say cuts will be between 0-20% - no individual email. What's worse is that our initial paycuts looked like a small percentage - ~5%. They never explained to us that we were getting tax refunds paid back to us, so our paycut looked minimal. Then 1 month later they call us (one day before payslip) and say our next payslip will be a deducted a lot more (around 15%, as tax refunds come to an end). They then call us again to say our payslip will be lowered again as tax refunds have completed (now a 20% cut). They have offered no incentives, only continue to work Mon-Fri (as busy as ever). No incentive of days off, or working 4 days a week. No indication of when paycuts might end. Keep working and take the paycut. Frustration is high to say the least and I expect a lot of employees will leave because of this.

    I'd be gone.

I'd say a lot of people will hang on for a few months. Then as soon as better offer comes up they will be gone.

But that IT is busy isn't an indication that the company's cashflow, or income isn't at zero.

True, but there needs to be incentives and a motivation to work. What's in it for the employee? Continuing working long hours for less pay, with no reassurance or clarity on the future of the company. At the very least, show some empathy for the employee. Giving cuts and making use of the subsidy scheme immediately in March, with 1 day notice of this before payslips (this was done 3 times!). I don't know how the company can be defended here, it's really taking the piss.

They are paying less to be in compliance and get max value from the Revenue TWSS

I'm seeing a tightening too in my area, software development. Really depends on the company - internal IT and internal software development is seen by companies as a cost, not a revenue stream, and so it is a seen as an area to reduce costs in.. Might be different if you're in a place where the company generate revenue through your work.

I was more about the late notice and shifting goalposts. Sounds like a place firefighting to survive.
