Dead bat in cold water tank

Hi there, just looking for recommendation for something to stabilise my cold water tank in the attic. Had no water upstairs yesterday so headed up to attic to see what was going on, closed and opened a few valves and the water flowed again but I did notice a half decomposed bad floating in the tank. This water also feeds the hot water cylinder so don't want to use anything that might damage as its brand new stainless steel one which was relatively expensive. We had been brushing our teeth with this water and we re still alive but probably needs some sort of clean. Could we use milton or would that damage hot water cylinder. Any advice greatly appreciated. A lid for the water tank probably a good idea too.

There's chlorination procedures in place for cleaning such tanks in commercial applications.
A DIY dosing of fluid won't be suitable.

Remove bat remains, cut off water supply.... Run taps to drain it.... Maybe mop out tank if access is OK.
    Then back on with water.

And put a lid on it so it cant happen again
