Area Biodiversity Enhancement and Setback from House

    Hi there,

    I am looking at plating a site of 15 acres with native woodland scheme. There is house across the road from part of the field, so we will have to leave a 60m setback, and I understand you can claim the premium for the unplanted area. The house owner is fine with the planting. I understand that you can't plant trees and you can't allow animals in (or at least claim the land under SFP etc), but to what extent can you manage it? Can you plant vegetables here? Can you plant native fruit bushes? Can you sow a wildflower meadow? Or an apple orchard ( I presume not)? They would all surely enhance biodiversity if done right.

    AFAIK there is or will be soon a new scheme combining forestry with grazing.

    Do you mean agroforestry Birdnuts?
