    Hi

We're due to fly to Faro 13 July and back 24th. With COVID etc. now I no longer want to go on holiday.

I was going to move the flights for free to cancelled flight etc and get refund but this morning got email with schedule change.

Outbound flight has moved to 3 hours earlier - return flight no change.

So under their own rules if it's moved by 2+ hours I can apply for refund?

Does this apply to return flight?

I'd like to get full money back rather than voucher as it's €1,600.

I'd love to know the answer to this as well and / or how you get on. I'm in the same boat (actually a flight to Malaga) but am confused about rules - I read that if the airline changes the flight time and gives you more than two weeks notice then they don't have to give you a refund [Caveat - I am not an expert and am may well be talking out my rear!]

On their own website it says:

    https://www.aerlingus.com/support/cancellations-and-refunds/

If the change is more than two hours or causes you to miss a connecting flight on the same ticket, you are entitled to a full refund, otherwise the rules of the fare purchased apply.

So I think I can get refund for outbound flight - just not sure about return flight?

If the flights are on the same ticket it should be a full refund.

    My options are:

    1) apply to aer lingus for refund, if not satisfacation do charge-back on credit card/small claims court

If there's any doubt on success for that I could instead:

    2) move flights for free to likely flights to be cancelled, then once fully cancelled by aer lingus apply for refund.

Trying to assess which is more probably of successfully getting money back?

You have grounds for a refund, ring them, give your booking number and say you want it refunded as per the T's & C's

Aer Lingus were much easier to get a refund from than Ryanair in my experience (28 days as opposed to the 80 odd and counting)

playing the cancelled flight game is risky as you wont know for sure if it will be cancelled as governments etccould make announcements lifting restrictions etc and you will be snookered

The two weeks notice only applies to compensation not a refund.

Covid is seen as extraordinary event so compensation does not apply.

You are entitled to a refund if AL changes the schedule more than 2 hours per their own terms and conditions.

Ah! That's brilliant - I didn't cop the distinction between refund and compensation - cheers

would you not ring them and ask?

surely if your emails arent being answered that is the next step..

in an ideal world we shouldn't have to chase them for our own money back but thats what has to be done in the current climate

Did everyone get a refund in the end? Am looking at requesting a refund for flights changed by 5 hours by Aer Lingus, so am curious to hear anyone's experience or if they are still waiting for a refund.

No hassle, filled the form, email confirming refund 7 weeks later, cash was on my card just short of 8 weeks. Not great but not the impossible battle some have claimed and my ticket was one of the 'complex' ones with seats, avios part payment etc

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd hijack this one, Mods can split this if that wasn't the right thing to do.

Aer Lingus have today cancelled all flights between Zurich and Dublin in December. Does anyone know the reason for this, if it is related to the EU Traffic Light system and Switzerland being non-EU or something else? Swiss still seem to be offering flights, was the AL cancellation an internal decision or something which would affect flights with Swiss also? It seems they have also cancelled all flights from Milan but several other airports seem unaffected. Do we expect them to offer a new schedule of flights from Zurich?

    Lack of demand basically

I live in France and AL have pulled most flights here for winter, including my own city, until March 2021. I think it's just for economic reasons primarily: they have cut a huge amount of routes across Europe. Paris still flying, at least.

As others have mentioned lack of demand is the main factor. As to why other airlines can afford to continue, I would guess they have some contract to carry cargo along with the passengers.
