Wondering is there a timeline to apply for the Paternity benefit..They say it should be done atleast 4 weeks. But what would happen if I couldnt do it 4 weeks before the leave begins.
Anyways my employer will be paying out the full pay.But they need a confirmation from welfare to know that Iam not eligible for paternity benefit(short of prsi). So I have to go through the whole process and get a dissallowance letter from welfare.

First question I would ask is whether you do actually have an obligation to make an application for something that you are not entitled to. Check your contract for details.

If your contract requires you to make the application, or if you want to keep your employer happy, then don't worry about the 4 weeks. You can apply for Paternity Benefit within 6 months of becoming entitled to. They advise to apply 4 weeks before, as it takes about this amount of time to process. If you apply late, they will pay you, but later.
