They've opened at last. Has anyone used their gear? It is very affordable but I'm always wary of buying cheap and then buying twice.

Have got some of their stuff. Depends on the product I suppose. I have mainly used it for more basic products. Kids footy boots, tennis rackets, cycling gear. But I aimed for the cheaper stuff, as basic would be fine.

And they do the job and seem to last.

They also have expensive stuff but I was never interested in that so can't comment.

I've bought some clothing from them over the years. All holds up! Exercise gear, swimming clothing, even the wetsuits etc. Can't argue with it and haven't had a problem with the quality.

I have some items from the hunting clothing range and am very happy with them. Wider community feedback is almost always excellent too.

I find their gear ok. Not great, just ok - and I've replaced most of it over the years. Personally I think it's most useful if you're starting off in something and don't know what great gear is, or you're just trying something out. If I was planning on walking the Camino or climbing a mountain I'd go to one of the outdoor specialists, but if I just wanted to go up the sugarloaf with the kids I'd go to decathlon.

They have some decent stuff in their clothing range, base layers, trousers etc. and possibly rucksacks, walking poles, but I wouldn't go near them for things like boots or waterproofs which are far too lightweight for our weather conditions.

Finding it really difficult to get any response from Decathlon.
The phone number rarely rings, they don't reply to emails / facebook for days
I understand they're probably very busy but surely they should have some sort of customer service team?

    Anyone else having similar issues?

What number are you ringing? Did you try their mobile? 089 2498154 They were pretty responsive over WhatsApp if that helps.

I've been using the (01) number, may give that mobile a try! Cheers :D

On visiting the store.... can you try on items of clothing ???

Heard that this is now allowed at moment which is no good for me to drive 200 Kim’s to find out

Would like to know this too. Only reason I considered visiting in person was to try on before buying. If that's not possible, I'd just buy onlineb and save myself the trip.

Also, when drove out last week to go to IKEA and decathlon, the queues to get into both were mental, so just turned back around. (Obviously I'm not 200k away from them, but was still 30min drive each way for nothing)

What time of day were the queues? I’m heading in tomorrow at 10am.

Does anyone else find their website to be an abomination?

2pm on a sat. Probably the worst time of the week possible.
The decathlon one looked like about half hour I'd say
. IKEA looked like could literally take hours

Thanks. Went today at 10.15am, no queue in decathlon. There was a short queue of about 10 people when we came out at around 11am and car park was almost full at 11am (but you could park in IKEA and walk across).

Went there last night at about 19:00. No queue outside. Still very little bike stock. Drove past IKEA after. Still mad queue there.

Q in isn't too bad in my two experiences of being there.

No changing rooms open but they have a great returns policy so aside from the hassle of going back, its worth picking up a size or two extra. Or trying stuff on over your clothes (Like I did)

The Q for the tills can be long though so its worth sticking someone into that if you have a spare body in your party.

We've been buying gear from Decathlon in Madrid, I have family there, and the stuff is quite good and very affordable. Kids shoes and my shoes seem to last forever. I was afraid that Decathlon in Dublin would result in steep pricing as everything is overpriced in Ireland. Haven't purchased anything from Decathlon so I cannot comment on price, but the quality has always been good.

I discoered Decathlon on trips to France. I've bought tonnes of stuff over the years. Everything from snorkels to fins to bodyboards and wetsuits. I use their baselayers for golf and hiking. I've a full set of winter golf gear all ready for this coming winter.

I used their fleeces, gloves, hats, socks and neck gaiters for both Kilimanjaro and Anconcagua. They have a mountaineering shop near Antibes, Chullanka is the name, and it is all stocked for the Alps. I got a down expedition jacket for €60, it was the previuos years colour apparently. Like I cared. Head into Great Outdoors and ask for a coat to head to 7,000 meters.

They do 3 levels on most items. Entry, mid and elite. Depending on your demands and tastes you might find that the top end is good enough for you.

My wife and daughter swear by their top end jodphurs and tops.

They do carry known brands too, just not many.

Folks, sorry to resurrect an old-ish thread, but just wondering does anyone know if Decathlon are open at the moment (level 5?).

Have some stuff to return, but it's all awkward shapes and heavy, so i'd prefer to drop to the shop than return via An Post. Messaged them to ask if they're facilitating returns, but no reply just yet.

Their website is horrendous, but it baffles me that an international retailer that big, doesn't even have one mention of Covid-19 or restrictions on their website. Unless they operate as normal, which might be the case. But I don't think sporting gear is considered essential.

They are open and its a mixed bag....

If the item is in stock in the Ballymun shop, they pack it for you and send it out very quickly.

if the item is not in stock, it's a long wait.

    that's my recent experience anyway.

    And their website is shocking

I just got a reply off them today. They said they can't deal with returns, due to level 5. So I'll give them a bell in March and see (if the restrictions are eased, that is).

    And their website is shocking

Never a truer sentence written on the inter webs! Absolutely terrible.

Search function leaves out stuff, basket disappears, no way to eliminate out of stock items from search results.

Despite all of the above i persevered to checkout stage the other evening and then couldn't check out - check out box not active. had to refresh the page and then click the checkout link while the page was reloading. If it was fully loaded it was inactive.

    Terribly frustrating.

The upside is that according to an email the stuff has dispatched today, so 5 days ahead of schedule.

Is it open for normal shopping or just Click and Collect?
