is it easy to install a dishwasher or would you need a plumber?
i am looking to buy a new dishwasher...

It depends if you are just replacing a dishwasher or if you need to put new water connection in to service same.

It probably depends on the setup with the waste pipe i.e. whether the old pipe can be easily disconnected but you shouldn't need a plumber. It involves a water feed, a waste pipe and a power source, pretty much exactly the same as a washing machine.

If it's an integrated appliance, the power might come from a spur as in the photo, that will involve some wiring which you may or may not be comfortable doing.

i am replacing an existing dishwasher.

Just pull out old one, turn off water supply (find a valve controlling the connection) and unscrew the hose and pull out outlet feed. Pull out plug which may be located at back of dishwasher. Check if any grit/dirt in mini filter on top of hose. When new one is delivered they will take away old but you will have to have it disconnected first
