Ive noticed recently that when checking Aer Lingus flight prices to USA, the price per journey reduces when staying more than 5 nights. I dont think its anything to do with the days of the week or staying weekends as I have tried lots of different combinations.

    Any ideas why anyone?

Most airlines (except low cost airlines usually) have minimum stay requirements. This may be a certain number of days or a Saturday night stay.

Thanks but why would it matter to an airline how many nights you spend in a place?

    Are they incentivised some way?

This video will explain it better than I can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72hlr-E7KA0

Basically Saturday night stay requirements or grater than 5 days means you're more likely to be leisure than business so more price sensitive. It's obviously way more complicated but just airlines trying to get as much money as possible from you!

Back in the good old days EI would only book business class on short trips that didn't include a Saturday.
