Proof of income for social housing

I've been asked for proof of 'means from capital' for a social housing application. Is a bank statement ok? Is it necessary for the council to have this? I already provided them with a letter from the DEASP confirming receipt of social welfare. I am completely new to social housing application and haven't anyone to ask.

I presume you have a deposit? they want proof of where that came from - if you saved it over time, then your bank statement is sufficient or credit union statement.

I would have enough for a deposit. I'm with the bank and have a printed statement showing savings. I've worked on and off for years and saved as much as possible each time I was employed. Is proof of means from capital normally part of the council housing application? I thought showing the DEASP letter would show that I had income? You can really tell I'm new to this...

If your only capital is your savings, then a statement from any relevant account is what they are looking for. Some people have income from other capital, eg. property, investments etc. If those don't apply, then don't worry about them.

Hi all and sorry for bumping up an old thread, i am looking to apply for a council flat and they are asking for proof of recent rent contract, i don't have anything written from my landlord and am not going to ask him, i also don't want him to know that i'm applying for a council home, i am pretty sure he doesn't want any officials to know about his extra rent income. Would it be enough if i show my bank statements over the last 5 years showing i'm withdrawing the same amount of money on every 1st of the month?

    No.

They need proof you are renting, from whom, their (home) address, how much, when tenancy started, etc.
