Best courses for public servant

    Hi all,

Just wondering what are the best courses for existing public servants to do to upskill, and lead to promotion?
Looking at spending some of my own cash on upskilling, if it’ll better promotional chances.
Talking to go from HEO to AP, or would I be better off trying to better my interview skills as qualifications are important to a point I reckon?

I had plenty of academic qualifications before I joined the Civil Service, but struggling to get my head around the promotional system across the service.

I keep hearing Project Management from pals in private or public sectors, but from what I can see in Public Sector, HR seems to be a boom area in terms of opportunities.

Languages and numbers would not be my think so anything accounts related is a no-no for me!

Any insight from existing public servants very much appreciated.

Have a look at the competencies for the grade you want, you should be able to find them from any recent competition.
See which ones you would have trouble putting together examples for.

Depending on the roles you've had you may not have the balance needed, eg no staff management experience.
If you can identify gaps, a transfer at your current grade may be useful to broaden your appeal
