Hi .... 2004 1.4 d4d corolla , sometimes on acceleration it hesitates/jerks and is very sluggish, what could this be? Cant figure it out .... especially going uphill or overtaking feels like there is something holding it back or blocking the power .

I cant remove the egr valve as the bolts are rounded. Waiting on a fuel filter to arrive hoping thats the issue.

Any help or tips greatly appreciated.

Try the fuel filter definitely, what color is the smoke on acceleration?

Do the revs climb but speed does not when trying to accelerate hard?

Hi there is no real smoke on acceleration, but if pushed hard a small bit of black smoke , no revs get held back to as does the engine . I'm 95% sure its blocked egr or fuel filter :)

217k I'm not sure if miles or kms though 🤣

A new fuel filter has made a massive difference to the car I must admit . Anyone with an older diesel id reccomend changing it

I do mine once a year minimum.
They aren't a lifetime part although some may think that.

I'm pretty sure I used to do mine every 30k km when I had one of those cars.
Realistically it was probably over kill doing it that much but the car never let me down.
