    Hi lads,

Trading in an old diesel for a 202 electric vehicle at the start of July.

Dealer has agreed a trade in price, it's NCT'd till end of July so it's his problem after that.

Tax is due 30/6, I know you get a months grace.....

Anyone know if the dealer will take the car without it taxed in the first week of July. I know I could ask but know what the answer is likely to be lol

It's not a lot of money (€60 for 3 months is the least I can tax) but that's half a years tax on the new car...

    Anyone with any experience?

Yeah they will take it no bother
Once the deal is done and transferred out of your name, the new buyer will tax from whenever they buy it
Some garages could have a car sitting for a few months before they sell it on, so its pointless having tax on it

    You wish .......:D.
    You don't.
But apart from that, as Mad Mike said above, the Garage will not care when the Tax expired. They know exactly what they are going to do with your trade-in (regardless of Tax).

edit; I'm also guessing your 'old car' has had the 3 month extension to it's NCT, and it's now valid until the end of October ?

Good point. It's actually a 4 month extension that they granted to all NCT's

They wont transfer it out of his name until someone else buys it.

    Not quite.
If it's done correctly the car will be down as 'sold to a Motor Trader' on the system.
It just will not add another Owner to the Car's Record.

edit; if the Car was driven through the M50 toll the Dealer would be getting the Bill.

It would be a waste of time taxing it as once someone buys it, they tax it from the begining of that month. so if you tax it for three months and the new owner buys on the fourth month, those three months tax have been wasted.

The only exception being that the dealer might use the car for trade use in the meantime, but normally they will only run around in cars that are taxed and should have a few handy.
