Covid work subsidy and annual leave

Everyone in our plant was asked to take annual leave for last week.
When we all came back we found out that our employer has paid us for that week using the Covid-19 subsidy. We did not know this up front so it came as a surprise.

Most companies I know of in the same field have shut down for 1 or 2 weeks, used the subsidy to pay staff and topped the pay up to 90% of expected without any impact on accrued annual leave. I seems to me that our employer is acting in bad faith towards the scheme and it's employees. I'm not looking for 'free holidays' or anything like that but at the same time the whole thing seems cloak and dagger and leaves a bad taste in everyone here's mouth.

Do you know if this is acceptable use of the subsidy? TO pay for people's annual leave?

    Thanks.

It is, can be used while people are working too. As long as their sales are down 25%+, they can use it.

Holidays and the wage subsidy are two totally different things. The government is not to pay for Annual Leave. This is an entitlement you have with your employer.

Strictly speaking (my understanding) and as complicated as it has turned out to be, if you are on Annual Leave, your employer pays you for this time, plain and simple. It is not to fall under the WSS. However, i appreciate most companies are just in survival mode right now and will do what they can to keep heads above water.
