I saw on a different thread that season 2 of LA's Finest has been pushed back because of the recent unrest and protests over the death of George Floyd.

Does anyone think that the most police dramas, Blue Bloods, SWAT, 911, The Rookie and others will either have their seasons premieres pushed back, have their seasons cut or will they seize current sentiment and try and portray a more positive image for the characters they portray.

There was an episode of SWAT where Hondo out of uniform had to deal with a cop in another state in what was a clear case of racial targeting.

What does the upcoming season hold for US television drama?

I have a feeling LA’s Finest being pushed back might have more to do with Gabrielle Union suing the makers of America’s Got Talent and the racial issues linked to that lawsuit than it being a cop show about rouge cops.

One of last night's episodes of Blue Bloods on RTE2 featured an undercover cop, involved in a protest as part of his cover, being assaulted by a uniformed cop who was policing the protest. Some of the violence used was eerily similar to recent events. This being BB they went too and fro and Frank mulled over it until eventually the uniform cop was suspended/disciplined for using excessive force.

Both men were white I should say.

In the other episode Erin the lawyer Regan prosecuted a wealthy white man who shot 2 black men, claiming they'd tried to rob him. CCTV seemed to back him up. Then Erin & Anthony found out he wasn't on his way home from the office at the time as he'd claimed-he'd intentionally gone out looking for the 2 men, as they'd allegedly robbed him a few weeks previously. The Mayor (Dylan Walsh, ex Nip Tuck) leaned on her to let the white guy off and she didn't.

Wonder if these and more shows in general will cut down on the number of criminals of colour. Like how often are drug dealers or gang members black or Hispanic?
Yet there are many shows that lean into Muslim terrorists though I remember a post 9/11 episode of 24 where Jack was helped by Muslims and they were sure to point out they weren't all bad

Knight Rider will have to go too as the car was black but the computer brain controlling it was cast by a white actor. The Hoff will not be happy.

First they came for Knight Rider, and I did not speak out for it hasn't been on the air for over 30 years

On a broader and superficial scale, this could be a good thing for Police Procedurals & Dramas. There are fewer more tired and overplayed tropes in the genre than the anti-hero cop who colours outside the lines - all in pursuit of "justice", usually at the end of a gun. It's lazy and clichéd to hell. The fashions & technology might be different but it's not all that different from cowboy dramas, and that barely civilised frontier justice you'd see in those tales.

Escapism is a fine thing & god knows over the last few months we deserve some, but there's possibly a point where this lone-star hero mould becomes a little suspect. Can't speak to Americans, but I don't WANT the police to be full of Dirty Harries or Judge Dredds, itching to dispense their own internal scale of punishment. Now, I not suggesting fiction causes this mentality, but in volume it can inform the zeitgeist, and a resting culture that says heroes need to break the laws to get results. The Ends Justify The Means etc.

It's more exciting sure, and probably why people prefer Batman to Superman, but I can see why it's not entirely healthy either. After all, the bad guys usually think they're the heroes of their own story.

Didn't know it was still running. Last watched it circa 1992.

The Hoff will not be happy.

    Just ‘The Hoff’?

    No hassle...

Isn't AGT fronted by an actor from Brooklyn 99?

    This too shall pass.

There was a pilot for a new series about 10 years ago, KITT was voiced by Val Kilmer I think.

Not just a pilot there has been two reboot series Kilmer was the voice of KITT for the second one and they are developing a new series with Justin Lin directing and producing it.

Well it is being talked about. Things have to change when it comes to these kind of shows:

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer
