Kryptonite in hot water tap?

I recently removed and cleaned a quarter turn ceramic cartridge in the kitchen hot water tap because of dripping. When I took it out, there were three puffy green mineral growths, looking like small heads of broccoli, hard but cutable with a knife, which were catching in the cartridge. They were unattached to anything, just stuck in the cartridge itself. I threw them out, but fished a piece of one back out of the bin for the photo - attached. (they were a lot bigger than the piece in the photo, about 3 or 4 mms wide each)

What is growing in my hot water tap????? Should I be worried?

The only logical explanation is kryptonite, or limescale.

It's either foam insulation or nuclear waste.

Of course. If it’s soft and you can squeeze it then it’s probably cylinder insulation
